Since Harper is a crazy crawling machine I think she’s burning lots of calories so miss Abs is still holding on to her 3 ounce weight advantage.

What the twins are wearing
The girls are still fitting in most 9 month outfits and now also 12 month outfits. Their growth has really slowed down this month.

Their eating schedule is the same. Only change is they are getting a much larger variety of foods now and they are getting pieces of cooked sweet potatoes, peas, grapes, watermelon etc. A new favorite is beet and blueberry purée. We tried giving them chicken but they both hated it. I can’t really blame them plain, unseasoned, purée chicken isn’t my cup of tea either. Their favorites include, pear, carrots, sweet potato, and banana. They also now love feeding them selves. They also love Happy Puffs.

The babies are still doing the same with sleeping. Going to bed around 6:30. Abbey sleeps through the night but Harper still wakes up once a night usually around 3am. I’m hoping to kick that habit this month. And they have now been waking up earlier anywhere between 6am and 7am.

They love playing peekaboo with daddy. They love chasing each other. If one starts crawling in the direction of the other they both just start giggling, it is ridiculously adorable. Harper loves pulling her self up onto everything, especially the side of her crib when she’s supposed to be sleeping. They love swimming. And they love chewing on remotes. But their most favorite is when daddy get home from work in the morning. The other day I put them on the kitchen floor and he opened the door and they got so excited and crawled to him it was insanely cute, Taylor said that’s the day he’s been waiting for since they were born.

Both girls have two bottom teeth. Abs has two top teeth and Harps has three top teeth. They are starting to do a really good job at picking up little pieces of food and feeding them self. They also love when I give them bigger pieces of watermelon and they just hold it and nibble at it. Harper can drink water through a straw now, Abs is still working on it. Taylor and I were talking and saying that we think Harper is quicker to learn large motor skills for example she’s a crazy fast crawler. And Abs has the fine motor skills she can find the tiniest piece of food and use her finger and thumb and pinch it and grab it. It’s pretty funny. Abbey is now crawling as well. She is still doing the army crawl but if she and Harper want the same toy she can be pretty fast.

This month the challenge was all three of us ladies got sick. It started with some kind of eye goop thing with Harper and then Abbey got it and then I caught something which gave me a fever and a bad cold and then Harper got Roseola. This was the first time Harper had a real fever. Her fever reached 103 but she was never really too fussy or overly sleepy or uncomfortable so I just let the fever run it’s course and gave her ice in her mesh feeder and when she woke up the next morning her fever was gone but she had the whole body rash so I knew it was roseola. Thank goodness Abs didn’t catch it. The biggest challenge came when I was sick. I had a fever at night and didn’t really eat much and then the next day my husband was on a 24hr shift and I was bringing Harper down stairs for breakfast and my legs gave out and I fell and slide down a few stairs and was able to keep ahold of Harper but hit her head against the wall. Taylor was able to come home for a minute and make sure she was fine (the perks of being married to a paramedic) but just that terrible feeling that I did something that hurt my child is a feeling I never ever want to feel again. That two week span of all of us being sick really sucked haha but were all better now.

My Favorite
My favorite this month is watching the girls play together. It has caused a few cries because Harper likes to try and pull herself up and Abbey which usually results in Abbeys face being smashed into the ground. But honestly it is so fun to watch them together and chase each other.

It happened!! For the first time ever Abbey weighs more than Harper!

What the twins are wearing
The girls can squeeze into 6 month onsies but pretty much only wear 9 month clothes now. And their chubby chubby legs barely fit into 9 month rompers, which I am realizing I almost always dress them in rompers I just think they are the most adorable things ever.

A day in the life of my twins eating schedule looks like this.
7am wake up and nurse
9:30 nurse before take nap
11 usually mashed banana for lunch
1:30 nurse before nap
3:30 nurse
5:30 purée for dinner (favs are carrot, peas, sweet potato, apple)
6:15 nurse before bed
Anywhere between 2am-4am they each will wake up once to eat.

The babies are still doing the same with sleeping, going down around 6 waking up usually once and then sleeping til about 7am. About 50% of the time Abs will sleep straight from 6pm til 7am and the other 50% of the time she will wake once during the night to eat. Their bedtime routine looks like this.
5:30ish eat purée for dinner
5:45ish baths in the sink
6:00ish get lotioned and jammies and daddy reads them a bible story
6:15ish nurse
6:30ish put in cribs turn on sound machine and sleep 20140606-121830-44310025.jpg

Now they are getting older they have different favorites. Well some things they both love and in some ways they are starting to differ. I have always predicted Abbey would talk first and Harps would walk first which I’m realizing is probably going to be true. Abbey loves to talk. She will say dada, mama, nana (we call my mom Nana) I don’t know if she connects what she is saying to the person she is saying but I think she might. When I went in their room to get them from the crib yesterday I opened the door and Abbey looked at me and said “Mamamama” oh my goodness my heart was in a puddle on the floor. Harpers favorite this is crawling, she does this hilarious half army crawl half real crawl, where she’ll crawl once normal and then belly flop and crawl once army crawl and keep going back and forth. She also loves attention, I mean both of them love when people stop and talk to them but Harper is a major ham, instant huge smile and everything. Abbey will first stare and try to figure you out and think about it for a minute and then decide to smile. Another favorite they share is excersuacers. Having twins is crazy expensive so I wasn’t going to go and spend $100 bucks each on excersuacer but we have been truly blessed by amazing friends who have let us borrow theirs.

We took them swimming for the first time this month and they absolutely loved it! They are major water babies. Here’s a few pictures of us swimming.

Well the talking and crawling I mentioned above are probably the biggest accomplishments this month. They both still only have the two teeth but I feel like they have atleast two more that have been trying to break through for ever!! Oh and they pretty much can totally sit up on their own. They are at the age where I can lay them on the ground with a few toys and they will play for about 15 minutes so I can fold laundry or clean kitchen, which is so awesome!

I have been incredibly blessed to have my mom come and help me, but I guess the challenge would be that for the last couple months now she is coming for just a few hours once a week or so. Which is still an amazing blessing and is actually really great because I am feeling more confident in taking care of the babies by myself for the 24hour shifts that my husband works. Some days are great and I feel like I rule the world because I can take them to the store and get some cleaning done all by myself but then some days both babies want all my attention and it’s not possible to satisfy both of them and it’s really hard. But I like trying to handle everything on my own and I think it’s getting easier the more I do it.

My Favorite
I think the challenge and my favorite thing this month are the same. There is something very empowering and encouraging knowing that God has given me exactly what I need in order to be enough for my children. Joyce Meyer says, “you’ve been divinely equipped to overcome any kind of trouble. It means you can face life with boldness and say, “Nothing in life can defeat me because the Greater One lives in me. He’s provided me with everything I need to handle what He has called me to do.” My other favorite from this month is that we went on our first family trip. Which I put a post about a few weeks ago.

Twins first trip

We have two big trips this summer, a week in California and a week at a lake in New Hampshire for my husbands family reunion. So we thought it would be a good idea to take a “practice” trip. Taylor and I love going on vacations so we figured we should start getting the girls used to traveling while they’re young. Some of you probably think we are nuts for taking 6 month old twins on a trip but hey to each his own, right? Anyway we decided we were going to go camping with my parents in the hill country but my husband noticed there was going to be huge storms so we changed plans to stay at the river walk in San Antonio. We had such a great time. I went not knowing how the babies were going to do. They have only ever slept at our house, and for the last month and a half they have always had a nightly routine and slept in their cribs so I was expecting it to be a struggle for them to go to bed and was expecting to be up many times through the night. But they did awesome! We brought their food and sat on the floor in the bathroom and fed them and then did lotion and pjs and then nursed them and put them in seperate pack and plays and Abbey was asleep instantly and Harper fussed for less then ten minutes and fell asleep. And they slept just like they do at home. I was amazed. Such a relief to know they will do well on our big vacations.

6 month update

Six months. Six months. SIX MONTHS! Holy cow. How did this happen. My tiny 5 pound babies are now ginormous. I don’t even understand how they are half a year old already. Everyday I thank The Lord for giving these sweet angels to Taylor and I. They are such fun, happy, wonderful, little adventures that I enjoy more and more everyday.

What the twins are wearing
The girls are still pretty much wearing size 6 month clothes and also size 9 month clothes. Their growth seems to have slowed down a bit which I know is normal for around this time.

The babies now can go longer than two hours between feedings during the day! Yay! They will go 3 sometimes almost 4 hours in between feedings during the day which makes running errands a lot easier. Also they typically only eat once a night, occasionally twice a night. We still give the one solid meal a day at dinner time. They have either, avocado, carrot, apple, sweet potato, and now I’ve added squash which they aren’t too sure about yet. I still am adding a little rice cereal to help them get iron because I am right on the edge of being anemic and now that they are 6 months they no longer have the supply they are born with.

The babies are still doing the same with sleeping, going down around 6 waking up usually once and then sleeping til about 7-8am. The last couple nights and naps have been a little rough for miss Harper Grace because they are teething and it always seems to effect her more. Poor thing lays in her crib gnawing on the side of it for a good 15-20 minutes before she goes to sleep. She actually gnaws on it any chance she gets.

The babies new favorite thing is rolling around, especially Harper. Abbey is just now figuring it out but it is a lot more work for her because of her torticollis. But Harper can get pretty much anywhere she wants by rolling and pivoting around. They also both love the little dollies my mom got for them for Easter. Thanks momma. And they love reaching for everything. This is taking a while for my husband and I to adjust. We continue to forget and then leave things within their reach, like a full blender that Harper reached and knocked off the counter spilling it all over the floor, and a vase of sunflower and Harper knocked over and spilled all over the floor. Haha. Hopefully soon we will learn. They also love sitting in high chairs when we go out. They love being able to look around and all the attention that they get from everyone around us. And they love when daddy gives them belly kisses.

20140503-093023.jpgBoth girls have two bottom teeth and are cutting some more because the poor things have been so fussy and in pain and gnawing on everything in sight. They can both sit up pretty well but they still sometimes like to fling back so I am always with them. They are both trying to talk but my sweet AbbeyLynn is a total chatterbox like her momma. My guess is that Harper will walk first and Abbey will talk first. They are making all different sounds now. But their favorite is to make the sound like you are gulping for air/ or like a donkey. Haha I don’t know how else to describe it but they will lay in their cribs when they wake up and do this for like 5 minutes. It’s pretty hilarious.

I know I say this every month but this stage is so fun! They are more easily entertained by themselves and with each other so I can lay them on a blanket while I fold laundry, which is awesome. The challenge currently is teething. It’s strange cutting the first two teeth didn’t seem to bother them that much but these new teeth they are getting must be huge because they are miserable poor babies. At our 4/5 month check up the Dr was looking at Abbey’s thighs and noticed one is chubbier than the other. One leg has an extra roll. I literally laughed when he mentioned this but he said it could be a sign of hip dysplasia and recommended we have Abbey get an X-ray to check. So we did and thank you Lord she does not have it. I took this picture when we got the call saying she didn’t have it.

20140503-093234.jpg Also he noticed her slight torticollis and recommended we go to physical therapy. So we have had 2 appts this month and have another on this week but she seems to be improving and I can already notice her head becoming more round and less flat on the side. Yay!

My Favorite
My favorite this month probably was the blue bonnet pictures.

Or letting them feel the water at Hamilton Pool. It’s so fun to watch them experience new things. I love it.

Texas Blue Bonnets

Texas is beautiful. When I lived in California and someone mentioned Texas I envisioned flat, boring, ridiculously hot, dry places. However now that I love here I am in awe of it’s beauty. From the Hill country to the natural rivers, to Hamilton Pool to my all time favorite Blue Bonnets. They are the most amazing picturesque display of Gods creativity. So naturally we decided that every Easter we will take family pictures in the blue bonnets. I love pictures and I love Gods beautiful creation so this was a perfect fit.

They are almost 6 months old. (I can’t even talk about it, because I’ll start to cry)

My mom had the great idea to do a reenactment of a picture of one of my pregnancy photos!

Just chillin kickin my sister in the face

Thanks to my husbands best friend Nick for taking these beautiful pictures.

Twins first food.

The babies have been interested in our food for a few weeks, so I did some research and we decided to try and give the babies their first food. We decided avocado. So I mixed some avocado with breast milk and we gave it to the girls. Abbey couldn’t get enough and would cry while I was giving Harper a bite. And Harper kept trying to grab the spoon out of my hand and feed herself. They both loved it and did a much better job eating then I was expecting. Pictures are worth 1000 words so here’s a bunch of pictures.
